So everyone takes time off between Christmas and New Year's Day, right? All that eating and college football means there's not enough time for a new podcast, right? Nope. We're on it. Boom. Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver joins Alan to talk about dental insurance, health insurance and having some empathy for the dental patient that wants to use their benefits. Then they dig into the idea of doing an "interview" with a new patient during their first exams and building up "emotional capital" (Shawn's fancy word). They also talk about the sponsors of the upcoming Voices of Dentistry Summit. These companies have decided to back the most innovative meeting os 2017 in spectacular fashion! Advanced Prosthetics Institute The Dental Hacks Nation closed Facebook group just went over 900 members! Can we hit 1000 before the New Year? Everyone has those patients that would probably best be served with a full mouth reconstruction. But many or even most of those patients can't or won't fit that into their budget. What if you could offer treatment that could offer positive esthetic and restorative changes to stabilize these patients with composite resin? Dr. Corky Willhite has been delivering this service, which he calls "transitional bonding" for years and he teaches it at the Cosmedent CEE! In today's episode he explains how he started doing transitional bonding and how to do it: from smile design to a stable products that can last for years! Want to see more? Corky is presenting a 3 day course on transitional bonding from March 16-18th, 2017 in Chicago! The Brain Trust features 5 speakers at the upcoming Voices of Dentistry Summit! We ask the question: does CBCT make you a better dentist? Jason and Alan talk with Dr. Wes Mullins from "the Dental Guys" podcast, Dr. Lance Timmerman of "Totally Oral" and Dr. Justin Moody of the "Dentists Implants and Worms" podcast about what CBCT has done for their practice and why they think it's an important tool! You're going to love this discussion (including Justin's near miss with a train). If you do...you need to buy your Voices of Dentistry tickets so you can meet them all in person! Episode 125 is a very special one for Alan. He sat down with his dad, Roger Mead, for a conversation about dentistry. Dr. Mead graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy school of dentistry in 1968 and is still practicing dentistry today! He still loves the profession and you'll hear about how things have changed and how they've stayed the same over a storied career in dentistry! He tells stories about dental school in the 60s, transitioning from working with no gloves, CE from Dr. Pankey himself, taking arrows for being a general dentist performing orthodontics and a bunch more! What started out as a talk with my dad ended up being downright fascinating! The Dental Hacks Nation closed Facebook group just went over 600 members! What if seeing posterior composites on your schedule gave you the same warm, fuzzy feeling as a crown prep on #14? We make no promises, but the Bioclear method can help! We pick up where we left off with Dr. David Clark talking about the Bioclear system, specifically the "Diamond Wedge." Since David is a dentist, he spent a bunch of years addressing problems that dentists have run into with posterior composites and designed solutions that everyday restorative dentists can use to take the drudgery out of direct restorations! You'll hear David discuss the problem of "back to back" composites and his tricks to avoid poor contacts as well as how to choose wedge sizes and separation rings for regular cases. Finally, David and Jeremy discuss how the "Rock Star Polish" and how they invented Magic Mix to make the polishing process simple and consistent. Honestly...if you hear one thing in episode 124 it's trying out Magic Mix. Man is that stuff awesome! Jason and Alan regroup in the second half of the episode to be their very own Brain Trust. Some stuff they talk about:

We feature Dr. Mark Costes, Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver and the Dental Hacks talking about social media marketing, JLips' "hip hop practice," podcasting and the most innovative CE event of 2017...the Voices of Dentistry Summit! 1) This is the same content that Mark released on the Dentalpreneur a couple weeks ago. It's great, but if you've heard it on his show...it's the same. 2) The Voices of Dentistry podcast is primarily for dental podcast listeners! It's a CE event for the people who are cool enough, good looking enough and smart enough to have made dental podcasts a part of their life! It's also for people interested in podcasting, because you'll have access to a whole bunch of dental podcasters to talk about how they do what they do. But first...it's for people like you who listen to the Dental Hacks podcast. And we really want you to come! 3) Some links from the show: www.thrivexperiencemasterclass.com Prices won't go up until next week. Get your tickets now! |

--most dentists Episode 123 features Dr. David Clark, inventor of the Bioclear matrix and all of it's associated products and Jeremy Henderson, his trusty right hand man. In October Bioclear rolled out it's new posterior composite system, which includes the Biofit matrices, the diamond wedge and the Twin rings. We have to say, you've never used anything like them. We've talked with David on the podcast before. He's been shifting paradigms for awhile now. But now we're talking about the most common and perhaps most reviled procedure in dentistry, the posterior composite. He thinks you can do composite better and faster by changing the way you think about this common yet amazing material! You'll get a double dose of Bioclear goodness in episode 123 because the Brain Trust features a "Bioclear focus group." Alan took the Bioclear anterior course back in August and recorded the thoughts of dentists finishing their weekend at the Bioclear learning system. Is it a glowing review of Bioclear? Yes. Will it motivate you to take your composite game to the next level? We think so! Here's a video and a bunch of photos that will let you see the Bioclear posterior system in action! Head over the the Dental Hacks Nation closed Facebook group for full sized photos and tons of Powerpoints on how to use the new system! How many hours do you spend at the office? Shouldn't you make it the best place to work that you possibly can? That's what we talk with Dr. Michael Unthank about. What's the most efficient type of operatory? What should you store in the operatories? Which is better, new build or designing in an existing space? How much should you expect to pay per square foot? Why are remodels so difficult? We cover a lot of ground in episode 122 with Dr. Unthank! The Brain Trust continues their conversation about office design. Dr. Lance Timmerman, Dr. Melissa Zettler, Dr. Josh Carpenter and Dr. Drew Byrnes join Alan to talk about what's good and bad about office design. Episode 121 is a like a tidal wave of office design goodness! For the interview segment we talk with Dr. Michael Unthank, who is arguably the most influential name in dental office design! Dr. Unthank tells us a little about his journey (architect first, then dentist, now full time architect). We ask the questions that you would ask if you were trying to figure out how you might be able to use a design firm for a new build or even a remodel.
Whether you're considering a new building or you're just trying to understand how to deliver dentistry efficiently...you're going to want to hear this interview! In our Brain Trust we bring together panelists who have experience in creating a new office space. Dr. Lance Timmerman, Dr. Melissa Zetter, Dr. Josh Carpenter and Dr. Drew Byrnes join Alan to talk about their experience with designing and office and what they might change if they could. Luckily, dentistry is rarely a life and death profession. Yet most of the bad outcomes in dentistry are from human error. We're not good at evaluating human error and we're not comfortable talking about our own mistakes. Dr. Linc Harris talks about why talking about and even (gasp) showing your mistakes can help others avoid these problems and will have an amazing effect on your ability and judgement in the future! This is one of the most important parts of his Facebook group called RIPE: Restorative Implant Practice Excellence. Linc also explains a little bit about his treatment planning style and describes his course "Rapid, Efficient Treatment Planning" (RETP)...coming to the U.S. in May of 2017! This week's Brain Trust continues where we left off with Dr. Cory Glenn, Dr. Melissa Zettler, Jason and Alan. The recorded LIVE in Cory's parents' kitchen (#notkidding). Cory teaches for Blue Sky Bio Academy about implants, guided surgery and treatment planning and spent an entire weekend showing the crew how to use Blue Sky Bio Plan software. This powerful software lets you know where to place the implant predictably and even allows you to generate a printable surgical guide! In this episode you'll hear how you can start doing guided implant surgery even if you don't have all of the equipment (CBCT, intraoral scanner, 3D printer)! This is a game changer! On Facebook you see beautiful porcelain photographed biting into a vibrant red cherry with sparkly lips. Before pictures of destroyed dentitions followed by afters of the most amazing implant and restorative dentistry ever. Yes, it's gorgeous. But let's be honest, it doesn't help you become a better dentist. Returning guest Dr. Linc Harris decided to do something about that! Linc is a dentist that photographs his work and shares it online. His goal is to photgraph from start to finish and show it all. Even when there are complications! In order to do this, he started a Facebook group called RIPE: Restorative Implant Practice Excellence. He and 30,000 of his best friends show their work, from start to finish and help each other get better. Today, he talks about how get started with photography and how he started RIPE! Dr. Josh Austin gets to try a lot of new stuff. Some of the stuff he tries, he keeps using. And that's what he's going to tell us about in episode 118. Josh is the co-host of the Accidental Geniuses podcast and he writes the "Pearls for Your Practice" column in Dental Economics! Here's some of the things he likes:
What would you do? That's what we ask in the Brain Trust segment in episode 118. Jason and Alan were joined by Dr. Jason Luchetefeld, Dr. Will Wyatt and Dr. Rich Weber to play a game of "what would you do?" Here's how it works: Alan throws out a plausible situation that could happen in the dental office and the Brain Trust takes turns deciding how they might handle the situation. In episode 118 we talk patients with untreated hypertension, patients who slide through financial arrangements and a bunch of other fun stuff. Listeners, let us know if you liked this segment! What happens when you pay a company to handle your office's web presence way too much money and they screw it up? You figure out how to do it yourself! Or at least you do if you're Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver. In episode 109 we introduce you to Shawn Van de Vyver, a dentist who understands marketing better than anyone you know and who has learned to harness all the amazing tools available online to create and manage leads as well as automate almost any process you can imagine. He's a unique individual and he let Alan sleep on his couch. In today's Brain Trust we talk about "herodontics." Have you ever done something at a patient's request that you were pretty sure wasn't going to work? Is preventing cavities as simple as changing diet? Is it all a lack of home care? In episode 108 we welcome back Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz to talk more about what dentists and dental teams can actually do to prevent dental caries! Her background is unique...and so is she. She's probably the only dental hygienist/prosthodontist you know. Pamela owns Salem Dental Arts in Salem, MA and is a column editor at www.dentistryiq.com as well! She is a featured lecturer on prevention and risk assessment in dentistry. In the second half of our endodontics focused Brain Trust segment we talk complications, irrigation, obturation and all kinds of good stuff. We feature endodontist Dr. Rebekah Lucier-Pryles from episodes 99 and 100 to engage with general dentists Dr. Mac Jones and Dr. Craig Heins along with your trusty co-hosts. Dr. Pamela Maragliano-Muniz is not your run-of-the-mill prosthodontist. Nope. Not even close. She wanted to be a professional hockey player. But then decided on dental hygiene. After she became a hygienist, she found that she loved teeth so much that she wanted to go back to dental school! Her background is unique...and so is she. Pamela owns Salem Dental Arts in Salem, MA and is a column editor at www.dentistryiq.com as well! She is a featured lecturer on prevention and risk assessment in dentistry. She's got a lot to say about some stuff that some dentists gloss over. Can we really assess patients risks in such a way that we can prevent tooth decay? She sets the record straight in episode 107 of the Dental Hacks! In our Brain Trust segment we dive a little bit deeper on endodontics. We bring back endodontist Dr. Rebekah Lucier-Pryles from episodes 99 and 100 to engage with general dentists Dr. Mac Jones and Dr. Craig Heins (along with Jason and Alan) on all things endo. We talk hand filing, file choices and even get into some endodontic horror stories (hypochlorite accidents anyone?). If you liked our first trip into endo, you're going to love this! There are a bunch of dentists that work with their spouse in the dental office. Dr. Mike Melkers is one of them. There are significantly less dentists that use tractors on a regular basis. Again, Dr. Mike Melkers is one of them. Very few dentists have created a disc golf course at their home. Dr. Melkers is one those, too. It's called "Thumper's Hollow." In today's episode, we discuss all this stuff. More importantly, we discuss the things that dentists need to do outside the practice of dentistry to keep themselves sane. You'll learn a few things (what is a catio?) and have a few laughs, guaranteed. Dr. Melkers returns to teaching this November in Waltham, MA teaching a course called "Occlusionists Now" with Dr. Lane Ochi! If you use the coupon code "HACKS" you'll receive a discount on your registration! Oil pulling? Figs for healthy teeth? The Brain Trust returns to discuss the craziest things that patients have said to their dentist. Join Dr. Dawn Kulongowski, Dr. David Scardella, Dr. Erin Elliott and Dr. Andy Hayes as they dig into inappropriate patient comments. In this special episode the Dental Hacks Brain Trust talks CBCT. Specifically, three of the members of the Brain Trust panel explain the features, specifications and decisions that they made in selecting their CBCT machine. This Brain Trust, along with four other "decision trees" will be featured in an insert in the July 2016 issue of Dental Economics. The Dental Hacks worked alongside Dental Economics to help explain some of the decisions that real, wet-fingered (ewwww) dentists make about equipment purchases. If you find this podcast and the insert in Dental Economics useful, please let us know at info@dentalhacks.com! |

How do you become better as a dentist? Is it as simple as taking a course? Or is there more to it. That's one of the topics we discuss with Dr. Mike Melkers in episode 105 of the Dental Hacks podcast. Mike is well versed in how we develop our understanding of new concepts. He's a teacher as well as a learner and he discusses the ups and downs of continuing to learn our craft. He also discusses the work he put in to become a master in the AGD this past weekend! Dr. Melkers returns to teaching this November in Waltham, MA teaching a course called "Occlusionists Now" with Dr. Lane Ochi! If you use the coupon code "HACKS" you'll receive a discount on your registration! In the Brain Trust things get a little lighter when we open with the question: what's the craziest thing a patient has done in your dental chair. Alan is joined by Dr. Dawn Kulongowski, Dr. Andy Hayes, Dr. Erin Elliott and Dr. David Scardella to tell stories that get very inappropriate very quickly. Products, instruments, books podcasts or anything else that makes our life easier and better. So when someone suggested a whole episode of "Go Hack Yourself" items we jumped on it! Dr. Chris Phelps spends most of episode 103 delivering actionable marketing content. Whether it's gift cards for nearby restaurants, wine and cheese parties or car washes he's giving you ideas for TONS of campaigns that you can use to drive new patient flow. He's also the originator of CallTrackerROI, an ingenious service that allows you to track how effective your marketing is. He's also one of the foremost experts on the science of influence. He's even studied directly under Dr. Robert Cialdini PhD, who is essentially the jedi master of influence marketing. All this gives Chris a very interesting and fascinating outlook on why some marketing works and some marketing doesn't. If you loved the actionable items that Chris shared in episode 103 then you're probably going to want to hear more. Here's how you can:
Episode 103's Brain Trust features Dr. Mike Keller, Dr. Dawn Kulongowski and Dr. Melissa Zettler. We continue our discussion of geriatric dentistry. How can you know if your patient is competent to give consent for treatment? How do you handle people whose mouths are falling apart because they can not or will not take care of themselves? You'll also hear Dawn take Alan to task for "bending over backwards" for those patients that won't allow you to tip them back far enough to work on them. It's podcasting gold, I tell you! How can you improve outcomes in your endodontics? How do you know if your specialists are doing a good job for you? Our second interview with Dr. Rebekah Pryles and Dr. Brooke Blicher is a deep dive in some of the procedural nuances that endodontists are using daily to get great outcomes. Should you be using hand files more? Are you irrigating long enough? What sealers are they using? You'll here it all from a couple of very approachable specialists. Be sure to check out their recently released book: Endodontics Review: A Study Guide. I bought it...it looks like a textbook but reads like one of those "for dummies" books. I love how easy it is to navigate to what you want and it's written to be engaging, not boring! The Brain Trust expands upon more interesting dental business models. We spend a hilarious half hour with Dr. Melissa Zettler, Dr. Frank Clayton and Dr. Brent Young talking about "emergency only" clinics, "walk in" hygiene clinics and a whole new beast that allows dentists to bid for the the kind of patients they want in their office! Almost 100 episodes in and the Dental Hacks haven't done much of a deep dive into endo...until now! Dr. Brooke Blicher and Dr. Rebekah Pryles are endodontists that work together in White River Junction, Vermont. Not only that...they're authors of a recently released endodontics text that you should take a look at: Endodontics Review: A Study Guide. Although they wrote it for those attempting to be board certified in endodontics we think it's pretty appropriate for anyone interested in taking a look at evidence based root canal treatment! The Hacks start this two part interview by discussing endodontic education as well as diagnosis and treatment planning. The Brain Trust welcomes back Dr. Frank Clayton, Dr. Brent Young and Dr. Melissa Zettler to take a hilarious look at alternative business models in dentistry. Have you ever thought about bringing specialists into your office? Will specialists stop having brick and mortar offices any more? How about "emergency only" clinics? Communication in dentistry can make all the difference between successful treatment and compromise. In episode 98 of the Dental Hacks podcast we continue talking with oral surgeon and podcaster Dr. Russell Kirk about how dentists and specialists can increase communication in an effort to deliver better and more consistent care. Specialists have to deal with so many different styles of communication from dentist to dentist. Some old school dentists are strictly referral pad guys while technically savvy dentists can send digital images and instant messages. You'll hear what makes a specialist happiest from their referrals and how you can get on your specialists' "nice" list! Be sure to check out Russell's podcast, "the Business of Dentistry" on iTunes and his website! In the Brain Trust we continue talking about surgical complications in the dental office. Dr. Lance Timmerman, Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver and Dr. Russell Kirk tell war stories of their experiences and the experiences of some of their "friends." Have you ever seen a wound in the floor of the mouth gape like the belly of a creature in the "Empire Strikes Back?" Dr. Russell Kirk is an oral surgeon from Lebanon, TN. He's also a podcaster. His podcast, "The Business of Dentistry," focuses on helping dentists take a practical look at running their small business. Jason and Alan had the pleasure of meeting Russell in person during their recent trip to Nashville. They sat down to talk with Russell about how oral surgeons are trained, his experience as a dentist in the military and how student debt is affecting the choices that new dentists are making during school and after graduation. We also feature Dr. Kirk in our Brain Trust segment. He joins Jason, Alan, Dr. Lance Timmerman and Brain Trust newcomer Dr. Shawn Van de Vyver to talk about surgical complications in dentistry. We recently had a listener email to ask us to talk about our experiences with paresthesia because she was having troubles with it and she wanted to hear what some other dentists had experienced. You might be surprised how hard it is to prevent embezzlement in the dental office! As David Harris of Prosperident explains, the conventional solutions that everyone thinks of often don't do the trick. Individual log ins to practice management software are great, but easy to get around. Cameras and keyloggers are fine as long as you know when to look! So what's the real tip off? Behavior. David and the Dental Hacks dig into what kinds of behavior you might look for that could give away an embezzling employee. Plus, David is offering Prosperident's embezzlement risk assessment for free if you use the code: "dentalhacks." The Brain Trust gets serious about charting in episode 96. That sounds boring but I promise you it's not! What kind of templates are available? What kind of red flags should you look for with regard to patients you might want to chart in more detail? How do you avoid getting "landed on?" All questions that Dr. Lance Timmerman, Dr. Melissa Zettler and Dr. Richard Low consider in detail! Embezzlement is a problem in dentistry. David Harris of Prosperident isjoins the Dental Hacks in episode 95 to tell us just how big aproblem it is. David thinks that dentists are particularlysusceptible because we're an altruistic bunch that isn't very goodat weeding out the criminal element when we hire. His solution:you've got to think like a criminal. Every dentist needs to hearhis message and the Dental Hacks deliver in a powerful andentertaining way. Plus, David is offering Prosperident's embezzlement risk assessment for freeif you use the code: "dentalhacks." The Brain Trust takes on a different difficulty that dentistsface. Dr. Melissa Zettler, Dr. Lance Timmerman and Dr. Richard Lowjoin Alan to talk about charting. How much of charting is done toCYA? Are some people more likely to get in trouble for chartingthan others? The Brain Trust's take on a dry subject is at timeshilarious and always powerful. Should your web guy be in jail? Are they charging you way too much for way too little? In our second round with Jeff Gladnick, CEO of Great Dental Websites we take a look at some of the crap that goes on with some dental web designers. Jeff answers a few other questions for us:
In the Brain Trust we continue our conversation with our "all associate" Brain Trust members: Dr. Sara Fam, Dr. John Syrbu, Dr. Ayesha Zahurullah and Dr. James Raymond. They tell us how they found the associateships that they're in now and give some really good insight to "poor pathetic dental students" that may be weighing their options for graduation. Marketing your dental practice starts with a website. Your presence on the internet is as necessary as the Yellow Pages was decades ago. So how do you know what makes a great dental website? You ask Jeff Gladnick, CEO of Great Dental Websites! In episode 93 the Dental Hacks learn a little bit about how Jeff got into creating website for dentists (he's got a family full of them) and how Great Dental Websites differs from other dental website companies. We also talk about the long tradition of sketchy dudes creating crappy websites for dentists and charging way too much for them and how a dentist can avoid these pitfalls! In the Brain Trust we have a conversation with dentists that are currently in associateships. We talk with Dr. John Syrbu, Dr. Sarah Fam, Dr. James Raymond and Dr. Ayesha Zahurullah about their current associateship as well as a few past associateships that didn't work out so well. They give some valuable thoughts on what makes a great owner doctor and what makes one that you just can't work with. We had comments from listeners to the last episode that said Lois wrecked their workout because they had to stop and take notes! In today's episode we ask Lois what are some of the "easy" changes a dentist can implement that will make a big difference immediately. As expected, she really comes through! Get your notepad and get ready to soak it all in! We continue our Brain Trust with three of the speakers at the upcoming "Practice on Fire Live" conference coming up in Nashville, TN on May 13-14. Composite resin is hands down the most versatile dental restorative material. But are you using it to it's potential? Dr. Buddy Mopper thinks that we aren't! Dr. Mopper is one of the founders of Cosmedent and he's got a few things he wants to tell you. First, where's the microfill? What happened to this material and why don't dentists use it much any more? In episode 90 Buddy give a primer on the types of composites and how we can use them better. He also goes "inside baseball" about how dental products are developed and how Cosmedent brings new stuff to the market. The Brain Trust features Dr. Jason Smithson and Dr Buddy Mopper talking about some of the ways they differ in technique. You'll hear to of the biggest names in composite continuing education describe the pros and cons of their techniques and why they do things the way they do. It's not very often that you get to speak to a living legend. A few weeks ago, Alan had that chance. Dr. Buddy Mopper is a spectacularly talented cosmetic dentist, educator and founder of Cosmedent. In our interview with Buddy we talk to someone who's been practicing dentistry since before cosmetic solutions were readily available to restore teeth. Buddy talks about life before composite and why he thinks composite is still the most versatile material for restoring teeth! The only thing better than an interview with Dr. Buddy Mopper is a Brain Trust segment including Dr. Buddy Mopper and Dental Hacks favorite Dr. Jason Smithson! These two giants of cosmetic dentistry start a discussion about composite and techniques that ranges from serious to silly. Some things they completely agree on and somethings they beg to differ! Dr. Erin Elliott is a general dentist in Post Falls, Idaho. She has incorporated the treatment of sleep apnea into her practice in a big way, and she's here to tell you how you can do it, too! In episode 87 we get down to the nitty gritty.
Erin is teaming up with Dental Hacks favorite Dr. Tarun Agarwal to do a powerhouse 2 day course on treating Obstructive Sleep Apnea in your office. The course is at Tarun's amazing teaching center in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 1-2, 2016. For more information and an invitation to an exclusive webinar by these amazing clinicians you should text "sleep1" to 44222. In our Brain Trust we continue our conversation with the amazing hygienists of the "Tale of Two Hygienists with Michelle and Andrew," Michelle Strange and Andrew Johnston. We dig into Michelle's teaching background, Andrew's restorative background and then take a good hard look at midlevel providers: the good, the bad and the ugly. Make sure to take a listen to their podcast, too. They provide a bunch of relevant information from the viewpoint of the most misunderstood dental team member! If you aren't sure where sleep dentistry fits into your practice, Dr. Erin Elliott can help! She's very enthusiastic about it and can help you decide how you might incorporate this important new treatment into your practice! She'll be teaching a two day workshop on dental sleep medicine with Dr. Tarun Agarwal in Raleigh, NC on April 1-2, 2016. For more information you can check out the website or text "sleep1" to 44222! Yelling down the hall is very 80's. Walkie-talkies...late 90's into the "early oughts." It's time to bring your intra office communications into the "twenty-teens!" Hardware options from Apple watches to tablets to the computer in every operatory makes the old technlogies seem obsolete. We talk with the leader in intra-office communications about the software he invented to make every office run more smoothly: OperaDDS. We get inside the brain of a dentist/software designer who put this technology together to improve the patient experience in his office and now it's available to everyone! Go check out OperaDDS and get special pricing using coupon code "Hacks." I know...very original. The Brain Trust spends a little time talking about the advantages of being a member of Smile Source. Then the Brain Trust switches gear. Dr. Melissa Zettler tells us a little bit about a Google review that took her by surprise and what can you do for a bad/unfair Google review. Episode 83 continues our discussion with Dr. David Clark. David has spent a career trying to teach dentists to look at composite restorations differently. Dr. David Clark is a pioneer of sorts. He started using a dental operating microscope long before they were "a thing" for restorative dentists. Once he started routinely using a microscope, he realized that how we handled composite resin needed improvement. So he set about to change the way dentistry understands and uses composite resin. In the first half of our fascinating talk with Dr. Clark we talk about:
Also helping us with our interview is Dental Hacks regular Dr. Arthur Volker who is also an instructor with Bioclear. In our Brain Trust segment we take an entertaining look at the onlay vs. crown debate. They always knew that they'd like to have him on the podcast because he's an amazing dentist and a very good teacher. What they didn't realize is what a good story teller he is! In episode 78 of the Dental Hacks podcast we give Jason a chance to tell his story from quiet and mild-mannered restorative wunderkind to international lecturer. If you've been on Facebook or DentalTown, you've probably seen the hyper-realistic composite dentistry that Jason has been posting since the early 2000's. Now you get to hear from him how he started doing it, how he got noticed and how you can up your composite dentistry game! Links mentioned in the show: Cosmedent and the CEE (courses offered by Jason) Velopex water abrasion unit (if you have interest do yourself a favor and friend Keith Morgan of Velopex on Facebook. Or email him. He's really helpful and can give you details of the impending roll out of their new air/water abrasion unit, the Aquacare) If you have any questions or comments for us please drop us an email at info@dentalhacks.com or find us (and like us!) at www.facebook.com/dentalhacks.
