This is a VERY SPECIAL EPISODE!

There is nothing wrong with your podcast app. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image; make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your podcast app. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to the Clinical Hacks Podcast

Special thanks to Josh and Lance

Oh yeah, we discuss crown preps too. Enjoy!

Alan had a chance to discuss how the UK has been affected by the coronavirus with one of our favorite guests, Dr. Jason Smithson. He describes what's been going on in his part of England as well as how the government is handling it there. Jason describes what dentists are being asked to do with regard to emergency dentistry and how it differs from what's happening across the United States. He's interesting as always but gives some perspective from an educator's point of view as well. You're going to get a lot out of this one!

Our friends at Microcopy Dental have been making Damn Good Burs for more than 50 years! You need to give their single patient use burs a try! You need to request a free sample of their damn good NeoDiamond 1116.8C. It's a work horse round end taper coarse bur for crown preps and operative. It's a terrific bur by any standard, but the fact that it's single patient use means there's no risk of cross contamination and you always get a great cutting, brand-new-out-of-the-package bur. Go check it out at dentalhacks.com/damngoodburs! Let Microcopy's experience change the way you see dentistry with their damn good burs!

Jason and Alan had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Gary DeWood from Spear Education about what we can expect during the Coronavirus crisis. Gary's message is one that we all could use right now and we're grateful for him giving us some time. Some of the things we discussed:

  • What do you do when you find yourself at the edge of the cliff and you don't know what to do?
  • This is a "government mandated" economic downturn which makes it interesting and scary
  • What should we be doing with our teams? What about the potential bill being passed?
  • Tax credits vs. tax "cut"
  • Do a 4 week "break even"
  • Own the fear/angst
  • "It's hard to make a plan when you don't know what the rules are"
  • Furlough vs. layoff
  • What should we expect with regard to infection control? Are "universal precautions" still universal?
  • testing and how many people actually have the virus?
  • hopeful information about this virus
  • what's a the story on the n95 mask
  • How is coronavirus like a horrible game of telephone

Jason and Alan spend some time checking in after the first serious week of change after the Coronavirus. Both of us have closed our offices to everything except emergencies. Some of the discussion points:

  • What are Jason and Al doing with their practices?
  • How did the “emergency only” decision get made?
  • How are the employees taking it?
  • Everything is happening FAST
  • Feels like a sci-fi movie
  • Feels like we know a tidal wave is coming
  • Offices that are staying open...predictions?
  • Now is the time to contact creditors and see what kind of breaks they can give you
  • What are we doing to keep productive?
  • Podcast: do we keep delivering similar “normal” content?
    • Talk to some people in banking/finance
    • Maybe talk to some people in the dental associations?

Alan speaks with Dr. Caroline Zeller about the evolving coronovirus situation in the United States. Caroline is a dentist in an interesting situation. She has advanced training in oral surgery and splits her time amongst 4 different practices in Oregon delivering oral surgery services to underserved populations. She's working on her masters in public health, she's a delegate to the ADA and she's on the board of the Oregon Dental Association. As well, she has a terrific podcast called "Removing the Bite Block." In the episode we discuss the increasing pressure from our professional organizations for dentists to move to "emergency only" treatment. A few highlights:

  • If you think we're talking about universal precautions, you're missing the point. This is about people staying home and social distancing.
  • What constitutes an emergency: pain, swelling, fever and infection.

How did Kevin get into ortho?

Do Mac and Zach even know what a bracket is?

Zirconia is widely used. Many love it, some hate it. But there aren't many people that know more about it than the one and only Dr. Mike DiTolla! Mike joins Jason and Alan to answer questions from the Dental Hacks Nation about all things zirconia! Some topics we cover:

  • Mike's shoulder surgery experience and why you shouldn't feel too bad about missing a block again.
  • How Mike invented zirconia (Al's word, not his)
  • Is zirconia too strong?
  • Can you bond zirconia? And how does that work?
  • How does the lab approach zirconia (e.g.--die space, etc.)
  • 30 micron margins! Crown margins = really narrow class V restoration
  • Best ways to adjust zirconia (water on, very fine diamond)
  •  Mike and Josh Austin's AMAZING performances at VoD 2020!
  • What is zirconia's Kryptonite and why do we have to clean zirconia before cementing/bonding?
  • Best way to open an access/drill a hold into a zirconia crown and how to repair
  • Blended zirconia materials
  • Will zirconia eventually take over?
  • Cementing vs. bonding
  • The Lipscomb Scale of how much it sucks to remove zirconia crowns
  • How to get some free polishing and cementing tools from Ivoclar-Vivadent

Dr. Randy Houska is an interesting guy. He's a dentist in Vermillion, South Dakota which is home to the University of South Dakota. Alan and Randy discuss the pros and cons of being a dentist in a university town. Then Alan brings up a problem he's having with a particular earworm. Somehow, he can't get "You Got Lucky" by Tom Petty out of his head. Then they talked about AC/DC and team building events.  Even though Randy is a self-professed "regular-ass" dentist he has an amazing Twitter following that you should definitely check out!

Today we discuss what might seem like a mundane topic, yet it's a procedure that most of us do 8 to 16+ times a day and some surprising discussion actually came up from the longest hygiene exam of all-time. Can you make a career out of hygiene checks? Mac tells us about someone who does. How often do you check your patients? How long do you spend in there?   What do you do when something is wrong that might take more time to talk about? Do your hygienists help you fill the schedule if there's something that could be done same day?

How many teeth have we done root canal therapy on that we probably never should have in the first place? It's an uncomfortable topic because we have to be humble about our ability to diagnose and treatment plan for success!

Dr. Lou Berman joined Jason and Alan for an in person interview from the Spear Summit 2019! We dove right in to cover a bunch of interesting endodontic topics!

  • How do you know when you SHOULDN'T start endodontic therapy? How do you evaluate the foundation before the house is built?
  • Creating Spear Education's endodontics curriculum
  • Root resorption...what's up with that? It's not coming from the pulp, it's coming from the periodontium (external)...it's NOT an endodontic problem!
  • Orthodontics and root resorption...feline herpetic viruses?
  • The financial commitment of endo (and retreatment)
  • "Root canals don't work on me"
  • Endo temporaries (why don't we seal the access?)
  • Single appointment endo vs. multiple appointment
  • Leaving teeth open
  • Berman Instruments new premium line!

Practice management software is great. It’s a great big bucket of patient information that you keep adding to every day. You’ve got to have it. But what your practice management software can’t do is tell you when Karen is running late. Or that Bill mentioned in a text that he’s ready to do that crown. Our friends at YAPI love your practice management software, but they want to help you get the most out of it! That’s why they created the “Practice Dashboard.” The Practice Dashboard gives you a bird’s eye view of your office. At a glance, you’ll know patient’s readiness and priority: who is checking in, who is filling out paperwork, who is ready to be seated, who has been waiting for too long and who is running late. This real-time information enables dental teams to optimize patient flow, minimize delays, reduce patients’ wait times and handle the unexpected. So basically, Practice Dashboard from YAPI takes the information in that big bucket and puts it in front of the right people at the right time. Check out Practice Dashboard and all of the other great features YAPI has to offer at dentalhacks.com/YAPI. YAPI. It’s a funny name, but it’s serious software!

THEN mid-episode has a reveal you won't want to miss.  Kevin one ups everyone with his level of magnification, but mainly because his eyes suck big time.   Zach has the most pathetic journey of magnification you could imagine, but admittedly he's on a pathway towards redemption.   Does your team magnify?  Do you magnify at home like we do?    How about headlights?

Tell us more about how you magnify at the office and get on there to make fun of Zach and his overseas cheap loupes on the Clinical Hacks Facebook Page.

Jason and Alan discuss the coronavirus. Our take is uninformed by evidence. But don't worry. We're totally right.

If you're a dentist and you are trying to get case acceptance, that means you're a salesperson. You might not love the wording, but the concept is true. If you are explaining the pros and cons of treatment, the benefits of treatment and consequences of no treatment...you're a salesperson! Jeff Palmer of the Case Acceptance Academy explains how to help patients move forward in an ethical and predictable way! We discussed a lot of topics including:

  • Where did Jeff come from? How did he learn his case acceptance techniques.
  • Why is case acceptance part of marketing?
  • How do you measure case acceptance?
  • "Marketing can't control what happens after the phone rings"
  • In person coaching vs. online training (Jeff can do both)
  • The exam isn't the case presentation! (diagnose first, treatment plan second)
  •  "You need a..." is the wrong move after diagnosis
  •  Show, tell, ask
  • After you show the patient then shut up. Don't be the first one to speak.
  • Having a staff member ask the questions that the patient is probably thinking
  • Where is the best place to present the case? (you need a monitor and privacy)
  • Phone skills are KEY!

If you’re doing CEREC or other chairside milling, you should control block chaos with their CAD/CAM Block Locker! This is a really cool product and right now Zirc is offering the Dental Hacks Nation a really great price. If you use the coupon code “DHLOCKER” on their website at dentalhacks.com/blocklocker they’re offering 20% off deal of their large or small block locker! This is a shockingly good deal! You’re going to love how Zirc can organize your CAD/CAM work space and you’re going to love 20% off using  Zirc...because time is everything!

If you could take a course from a living legend, wouldn’t you? Dr. Buddy Mopper is a giant in cosmetic dentistry. He basically created cosmetic bonded dentistry and he is still teaching! His legendary course “Catch the Composite Wave: and Surf its Potential” is coming up on May 7-8, 2020 at Cosmedent’s Center for Esthetic Excellence in downtown Chicago! And here's the deal...this course is almost sold out, so you need to act now! Check it out at dentalhacks.com/Buddy!

New patient exams are your offices best way to make a great impression! You get to meet the patient, show them the facility, get to know them and what they want from a new dental office. You know what the worst possible situation is? When the patient shows up a touch late and hasn’t filled out any forms. All of the sudden, your team’s schedule is off, your schedule is off and a chance to make a great impression is bogged down by a bunch of nasty paperwork. Our friends at YAPI have this situation solved. New patients of the practice can access your forms directly from your practice website or via email. They can complete and submit their forms from any device. Your team can review submitted forms and quickly import patient information to your practice management software with no manual entry! Check out YAPI’s online forms and all of the other great features YAPI has to offer at dentalhacks.com/YAPI. Sit back and relax while we pound out some Class 4's together.  Kevin hates the really small DILFs, but he's not no problem with the big ones.   Mac and Zach kick it old school with some microhybrid love and try to convince Kevin that his "one composite fits all" just isn't going to cut it for these pesky chips.   We talk matrices, bevels (we like big bevels and we cannot lie), total etch, sandblasting, isolation, composite types, polishing and so much more.  Frankly, in the time it takes to listen to the show you probably could've done 2-3 DILFs and already be back in your private office enjoying a Marlboro Red.

If you have opinions about MILFs please visit our Facebook Page and let us know where we got it right (and by right, we mean wrong).

  •  How to create a chance for a patient to book a real appointment anywhere your practice has presence on the internet!
  •  Will websites eventually be unnecessary?

Brian Colao knows DSOs. He's an attorney that helps people create and administer DSOs. He's been a frequent guest on the Dental Hacks and he gave Jason and Alan some of his time at the recent Voices of Dentistry meeting. We went deep on the topic of DSOs and covered a lot of information:

  • What is a DSO? (spoiler: "A DSO is an entity that provides nonclinical administrative support services to a dental practice that is owned by a licensed dentist.")
  • From one practice to thousands
  • When did we start to really see DSOs take hold
  • The episode where we met Brian, "DSOs and Digital Smile Design (DHP186)"
  • Was there a DSO bubble?
  •  Denovo vs. Acquisitions
  • What to do if a DSO approaches you?
  • How do you research a DSO that might want to acquire your office?
  • Brian thinks that there is probably a DSO that could fit most any office...go to a conference
  • What are DSO deals looking like for selling dentists?
  • The facts from Brian's mouth to your ears: DSOs are at 23% market penetration in the U.S. dental market right now. He predicts that there will be 80% market penetration in 7-10 years. He feels that you should plan accordingly.
  • EBITA: "Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, and Amortization"
  • What does a DSO look like?

With Dawn's kettlebell competition looming, Alan and Dawn discuss the path to self actualization being paved with discomforts, and getting comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Controversy this week! Kevin Fryer is pro-biteguard with his NTI's and sleep appliances. Mac goes on a mile long rant about biteguards and how much they suck. Frankly it's the most passion I've seen from Mac on a dental topic. Zach is pro-biteguard but despite efforts to make biteguards affordable, they are still a tough sell and even tougher to get people to comply with.

We discuss various types of niteguards and how we make them and implement them in our offices. Occlusion and biteguards a a divisive topic and if you want to weigh in and let us know how wrong we are, please head to the Clinical Hacks Facebook Page.

Another episode live from VoD!   This time we get Daniel Smith, DDS in the hot seat and he talks about transitioning his office from a privately owned family business to a Heartland owned DSO.

What are the pros?   What are the cons?   Does Daniel have to sell every patient 4 quads of SRP and 87 sites of Arestin?    Is every DO a crown now?

We talk a little more business than usual this week, but also tried to touch on some of the clinical stigmas that DSO's may or may not be known for.

Are you with a DSO?   If so let us know what your experience is like on the Clinical Hacks FB Page!

It's OK if you don't like surgery. No really...you don't have to love everything about dentistry. Dr. Craig Harder is a self professed "regular ass" dentist from Moses Lake, WA and he joined Alan on the day before the Voices of Dentistry meeting started to talk about some great stuff:

  • You could potentially survive for a year eating only potatoes.
  • Some dentists don't like surgery. And they're still good people.
  • Surgery--->more complications than crowns and filling
  • It's all about the reps...including how to handle complications
  • Hands on surgery courses should allow you to treat implant/surgery complications
  • Orthodontics is a whole different animal than dentistry. Treating faces vs. teeth.

Image result for Dr. Melissa ZettlerDentists and their toys. We're famous for it. Is it a bad idea? Good idea?

Dr. Melissa Zettler joins Alan to talk about some of the toys they've recently purchased (Al got another microscope, Melissa got the Primescan). Is it always a bad idea? What about when it makes you more excited to go to work? Return on investment is often difficult to calculate on a new piece of equipment or fun instrument. But sometimes a toy can give you the shot in the arm that you've been looking for. Melissa and Al are both mid-career dentists and they discuss the fact that this quandary about dental toys might not apply to younger dentists due to the increase debt loads that they face.

Jason and Alan spoke with Dr. Marcos Vargas who is an educator and teacher. Marcos teaches at the University of Iowa and explains why today's dental schools aren't maybe the same animal as they were 20 years ago.

  • layering, color matching and how materials are simplifying
  • simplifying means less inventory
  • 3M universal shades are essentially the body shades from Filtek Supreme Ultra
  • layering vs. bulk fill
  • insurance patients vs. layering and "ultimate esthetics"
    • "insurance company pays for function"
  • what dentists know about teeth vs. what patients know about teeth
  • what's new with 3M bulk fill technology
  • Marcos's schedule at University of Iowa is split between research, lecture and clinical instruction
  • How to practice in a dental school
  • Dental school isn't what it used to be, it's much better to be a dental student now!
  • Teaching digital dentistry in dental school
  • Do dental students understand the debt that they're getting into?

The Dental Hacks also had a chance to talk with Dr. Paul Feurstein! Paul is a dentist, writer and educator and let's be honest...he's a dental meeting warrior!

  • Paul celebrates his 50th GNYDM
  • He goes to a LOT of dental shows
  • Dentists as inventors
  • Are dental products addressing problems that we don't have?
  • Paul has created a dental character and now he's become it!
  • How is he using SDF?
  • Paul's connection to 3M

Jason and Alan are joined by two dental social media rock stars, Dr. David Rice of IgniteDDS and Irene Iancu (aka: toothlife.irene) of the Tooth or Dare podcast!

David knows young dentists. He's an educator and coach and spends a lot of his time helping new dentists find their way after dental school. His message is a lot more hopeful than what you hear from some people and his reach is really huge! David also spent some time talking about 3M's new Xerostomia Relief Spray. Dentistry hasn't done a great job for our patients with dry mouth and 3M has made a product that can really make a difference for them!

Irene Iancu is a hygienist, educator, social media maven and entrepreneur! She's got a great podcast called "Tooth or Dare" and she'll be podcasting live at the Voices of Dentistry with her new co-host. She's fascinating on a lot of levels, but we spent a lot of time explaining how she, as a hygienist, is opening a dental practice! If you've ever wondered how a dental practice owned by a "nondentist" can work, this is really interesting stuff! Apparently delays in dental office building affect everyone!

Teresa Duncan joins Alan to talk about the recently legal action taken by the American Dental Association against Delta Dental. Teresa's company is Odyssey Management where she used to be primarily a consultant. Now she spends most of her time educating dental teams about all things dental insurance!

This timely topic is a "must hear" for all dentists and their teams. Teresa features an in depth discussion about the lawsuit on her own podcast, "Nobody Told Me That with Teresa Duncan."

  • So what does this lawsuit mean for me?
  • The three main points of the lawsuit:
    • market allocation conspiracy
    • price fixing conspiracy
    • revenue restriction conspiracy
  • monopsony is a market structure in which a single buyer substantially controls the market as the major purchaser of goods and services offered by many would-be sellers.
  • The CEO pay gap between Delta and other "for profit" companies
  • Delta Dental "reserves"
  • Claims processors = data collection for insurance companies
  • Speculation on what might happen with this lawsuit
  • Al pitches the ADA on a podcast

  • How do we numb mandibular teeth?  Differences between anterior and posterior?
  • How do we troubleshoot a difficult to numb tooth?

Jason and Alan had the chance to interview a bunch of superstars at the Greater New York Dental Meeting in NYC! 3M let us use their amazing booth to speak with some really interesting folks including Dr. John Weston and Dr. Artie Volker!

John is a frequent speaker on cosmetic and restorative dentistry and the Hacks talked with him about the ins and outs of seating indirect restorations!

  • The only cement in John's office: Unicem 2
  • Treating Zirconia...how do you clean (Zirconia Oxide...Ivoclean, Zirclean)
  • Unicem 2 cementation technique (one second, tack cure)
  • Multiple unit cementation (light cure)
  • QwikStrip
  • Do you really even need Ivoclean? Could alcohol or hypochlorite work? (3M says yes!)
  • Try on protocols
  • High Translucency zirconia vs. lithium disilicate
  • Anesthesia for crown cementation (almost never!)
    • gluma for the unanesthetized  patient

Artie Volker has been on the show a bunch of times and the native New Yorker doesn't disappoint! Jason and Alan discussed composites and the Bioclear method with him, with the one and only Dr. David Clark jumping in a couple times to steal the show! (he just couldn't resist!)

  • Artie took a train to see us at the GNYDM!
  • The scourge of "black triangles!"
  • Using Bioclear to finish orthodontics/Invisalign
  • The Bioclear road show
  • Patient centered vs. dentist centered care and "Show me the x-ray!"

Jason and Alan had the privilege to speak with Dr. Rebecca Bockow, a dual trained orthodontist/periodontist and cutting edge advocate for understanding airway. Rebecca has been teaching at Spear Education for a couple of years and will be one of the instructors in the newly revamped "interdisciplinary treatment planning" course that Spear is putting together. She's also been featured on our "Queens of the Airway" episodes as well. The Dental Hacks had a wide ranging discussion with Rebecca which included:

  • How does a dentist decide on a dual specialty and why orthodontics/periodontics? (spoiler: she almost ended up as a prosthodontist!)
  • Expansion before expansion was cool
  • The Airway "Ah HA" moment
  • How teaching is a type of marketing for a reknowned specialist like Rebecca
  • The paradigm shift to treating younger patients orthodontically
  • Pediatric airway screening with a one page questionnaire
  • What in the whole world needs to change to better address airway issues
  • How can regular dentists understand and evaluate the literature about airway
  • How to rehabilitate a patient with excessive wear/gummy smile and more
  • Looking at how the malocclusion/skeletal development came to be
  • What's Rebecca's "elevator pitch" about how to incorporate airway into your practice
  • How do gummy smiles and airway relate to each other?
  • How to open the palatal suture once you're an adult (TAD expanders vs. Hyrax expanders)
  • Surgery + orthodontics = airway magic
  • What % of people breathe through their nose?
  • How do we evaluate tongue tie?

Becca is a genius and if you get a chance to see her teach, DO NOT MISS IT!

Jason and Alan speak with Dr. Mitch Ellingson about running a business. Mitch is in charge of Spear Practice Solutions, the business/consulting arm of Spear Education. Most dentists are going to run into this quandry...how can you be a great clinician and run a great business. Mitch has some thoughts. A lot of them as it turns out! Some of what we discussed:

  • The difference between a consultant and a business system
  • Can your life look like a Newport cigarette commercial?
  • What does "big data" look like with Spear Practice Solutions?
  • Case acceptance...it's not like you think (spoiler: it's about recare efficiency)
  • What is leadership really? How can Spear Practice Solutions help with this?
  • Are consultants really just brought in to fire someone?
  • How does investing in the team make a difference in your leadership and team performance?
  • Garbage in/Garbage out and practice management software

  • Pathology isn't in the thing, the pathology is in the relationships of the things
  • Adaptation and asking the wrong question
  • Hormone imbalances and classic presentations of TM dysfunction/facial development
  • The checklist gets longer and longer (like a CVS receipt)
  • What is interdisciplinary treatment?

Our clinical outcomes often depend on light cured materials. Dentists take for granted that their lights are delivering the right amount of energy, but how can you know? If you have more than one light, are they delivering the same amount? How can you make sure you aren't undercuring your light activated materials while minimizing the heat from your curing light? Alan and Jason are joined by Dr. Chris Salierno and Chris Felix of Bluelight Analytics to talk about curing lights! Chris is the chief scientist at Bluelight Analytics which is a company that helps dentists measure the quality and intensity of the curing lights in dental offices.

Our friends at Bluelight are giving away one of their checkUP devices with a 1 year subscription on the Dental Hacks Nation! All you have to do is like and comment on our post there and you're entered to win!

Jason and Alan had the privilege of sitting down with the one and only Dr. Frank Spear. We had an hour during the Spear Summit to pick up where we left off from episode 235 and it was very interesting. Frank opened the meeting with a talk that discussed the stories that dentists tell each other about where the profession is going and then presented some data that suggests a lot of these stories aren't exactly true. Some of the things we discussed:

  • Why do insurance companies cover thing so differently from state to state?
  • The beauty of practicing in groups. But not necessarily a DSO.
  • Could someone become Frank Spear in the way that Frank did considering student debt as it is now?
  • How did beautiful temporaries make a difference in Frank's career?
  • Why does Frank feel responsible to help the narrative that dentists tell each other?
  • What's the data the Frank would really like to see?
  • Why is it so impossible to compare dental businesses and income across the country? How can you compare apples to apples?
  • Take home message: things are better than dentists are telling themselves!
  • What is dental school like when your dad is Frank Spear?
  • How could dental school teach things with more context?
  • Are there useful parallels between dental and medical education?
  • How will Frank's teaching schedule be changing in the future?
  • How is the curriculum at Spear Education changing?
  • What kind of "big numbers" has Frank been impressed with lately? (spoiler: it has to do with Spear Practice Solutions)

Go check it out at dentalhacks.com/brushandsculpt!

YAPI is kind of like a pizza! You can start with a plain cheese which gives you some of the essentials. Some like to add some meat! (iPad/online patient forms) and some people don't particularly want meat and will opt for veggies (automated appt confirmations/recall reminders/texting), but most people DO want The Supreme (which we call The Works!) - you get nearly everything we offer at the best value. But if you are ordering a pizza, maybe you want some hot wings (online reviews) or garlic knots (our phone screen pop integration with RingCentral or Mango Voice). Are you hungry yet? Every office is different. YAPI has pediatric practices, perio practices and a whole lot of plain old general dentistry offices and they each can choose from YAPI’s wide menu of services! Why don’t you go check the menu at dentalhacks.com/YAPI. It’s a funny name but serious software!

Alan has talked about (bragged about?) The Francis B. Vedder Society on the show for years. He's been a member for 20 years or so and it's been very influential in his career. Some of the speakers Alan has seen in the last 20 years or so include Dr. Frank Spear, Dr. John Kois, Dr. Jeff Rouse, Dr. Jeff Okeson, Dr. Stephen Chu, Dr. Pat Allen, Dr. John Burgess, Dr. Bernard Touati and Dr. Bob Winter to name a few. It's been a literal "who's who" in dentistry lecturing to a small group of colleagues in a laid back setting.

Last weekend was the 2019 Fall meeting and the society celebrated 60 years of continuing education and fellowship. Alan recorded a "live podcast" at the event where many of the members of the Vedder society shared some funny and emotional stories of what the society has meant to them. We hope you enjoy this unconventional episode and maybe you'll consider a trip to northern Michigan next fall (September 24-27th, 2020)!
